Easy Lacing Craft For Kids
Last month Kaylee asked if I would give her a sewing lesson every week. She is almost 6 years old and I thought, “Yes! What a great idea!”. Then three weeks went by. She didn’t let me forget with her little hints and suggestions of projects we could do. I finally sat down and came up with a couple of easy sewing projects for her. VERY beginner projects with a needle and thread. The first one was just a plastic needle point canvas. She loved it and so I decided to do another needle craft with her. A fun decoration that she can hang up this month for Halloween.
You could easily create any shape cut out for any holiday!
Lacing Craft Supplies
Optional: I used a round stencil brush to add dots (using acrylic paint) to my canvas. It took all of 60 seconds and I love the pop of color! While that dried, I cut out my felt shapes.
These burlap canvases come in several sizes are are so perfect for this craft since the grid is just the right size for a kids needle to slip through!
Trace and cut out your felt. I created a printable with templates that you are welcome to use.
I love my Crop a Dile tool and use it for all sorts of projects. It punches felt perfectly and makes lacing projects like this a snap!
To keep the felt in place while sewing around the edges, use some adhesive.
Center the felt on the canvas and press lightly.
Using a plastic kids needle and embroidery floss, begin stitching around the edges.
Add eyes using some fabric puff paint.
She made two in less than a half an hour. Just basic up and down stitches.
Two darling Halloween Canvas crafts to hang up this season and she is so proud that she made them by herself!
What should we make next?
