How to Make a Double Stuffed Oreo Couples Costume

Most of y’all know that I heart Halloween, specifically DIY Halloween costumes! I’ve crafted up some elaborate costumes in my day, but these days, I’m all for the easier the better. Andy loves Oreos and cardboard is my favorite costume material so I crafted us a DIY Oreo couples costume! We added the milk headbands just a few hours before the big party, because the more ridiculous, the better.

FYI: If you’re short on time, you can purchase a couples Oreo costume here for less than $50! Here is what you need to make DIY Oreo costumes.

How to make DIY Oreo couples costumes

Step 1- Cut circles

Cut out the largest circle your peice of poster board will allow. To do this I tied a string to a pencil and drew a large circle on one peice of poster board. Then, use scissors to cut out the circle. Repeat to make a second large black circle.

Step 2- Scallop the edge

Once you have 2 large circles cut out of poster-board, use scissors to make a scallop edge around both black circles. This does not have to be perfect.

Step 3- Add Oreo details

My big dilemma was should I use a silver paint pen or a black one? I finally decided on black since that mimics a real Oreo best, but a silver one would 100% show up better in pictures. I free handed the Oreo markings. By no means are they perfect, and my Oreo’s are not identical. Don’t stress, you can do this! I started with the outside ovals. I did one oval per scallop, and worked my way to the center of the Oreo. If I make Oreo costumes again, I would use a silver paint pen or chalk!

Step 4- Attach poster board to cardboard

The Oreo markings are the most time intensive part, so pat yourself on the back now that you’re done with that! I used a cardboard box from the garage and cut a circle slightly smaller than the Oreo. You could potentially skip this step, but the cardboard backing makes the poster board Oreo much more sturdy. I used an XACTO knife to cut the smaller cardboard circle out.

Step 5- Attach string

Now, it is time to turn the Oreo into a giant necklace, ha! I used the XACTO knife to cut 2 holes about 7 inches apart in the top of the cardboard circle. I attached the string and then glued the poster board Oreo to the cardboard circle.

How to make milk jug headbands

The milk headbands are super simple! For Andy’s headband, I literally emptied our milk jug into a pitcher, rinsed out the milk jug and hot glued it to a plastic headband I had in my Halloween box. I actually had to rip a DIY coke tab off of the headband, ha! The milk jug headband was to top heavy for my head, but worked for Andy’s big noggin.

I did the same thing with my headband except I used a smaller milk container and then stuck my ponytail though the container. I also added a peice of white paper to mimic milk. So fancy. We tried to use white hair spray paint to make our hair white, but even after 2 cans on each head, our hair was grey at best.

The Oreo cookie details showed up better depending on the light. It worked really well at the party with the black light! How about that glowing milk?
