With the weather turning cooler recently we’ve definitely been spending more time indoors as a family and we’ve made an effort to play more games with our children, it’s just a really easy way to have fun together.

Don’t Eat Pete is a classic kids game, it’s a great activity for playing in a group or as a party game but it’s also perfect just for playing at home – after all who isn’t interested in a game where the aim is to eat as much candy as possible?

If you haven’t played Don’t Eat Pete before then don’t worry, you’ll find the easy instructions both on this page at at the top of your printable.

If you are playing this game in a classroom or with a group of kids you might want to laminate your printable both to keep it in good condition and so that you can use it again.

What’s Included in the PDF Pack?

Our Don’t Eat Pete monster game is free to download and inside the PDF file you’ll find four different printables that you can choose from, all you need to do is choose your favorite.

  • The first is a full color design with different monsters
  • The second design has the same monsters but in black and white, you can color these in yourself with pencils, markers or crayons if you’d like.
  • The third design has nine monster outlines, this is a great choice if your kids would like to add their own details to each monster.
  • The fourth design gives the basic outline of nine squares but has been left blank so that you can add your own designs.

Do I Need To Use A Dice?

You don’t need a dice to play this game, all you need is the PDF file, a printer and some candy or other treats.

What Candy Should I Use For Don’t Eat Pete?

Small pieces of candy are your best choice such as m&m’s, smarties or skittles.

Do I Have To Use Candy?

No, if you’d prefer to not use candy in this game then why not try cheerios, blueberries, goldfish crackers or raisins.

How To Play Don’t Eat Pete

  1. Put a small piece of candy on each of the nine squares.
  2. Players take it in turns to be the ‘Eater’ and should leave the room while the other players collectively choose one of the monsters to be ‘Pete’.
  3. The ‘Eater’ returns and starts eating (or collecting) the pieces of candy one by one. Your aim as the ‘Eater’ is to eat as much candy as possible!
  4. If the ‘Eater’ selects the candy on the chosen monster then everyone shouts “Don’t Eat Pete!” and their turn is now over.
  5. Replace the candy and a new child is chosen to be the ‘Eater’.
