This simple and customizable craft is ideal for decorating bulletin boards, enhancing storytelling activities, or as a fun project for the classroom or afterschool programs. Just cut out the mitten shapes and personalize them with your favorite embellishments! We added felt letters to highlight fun holiday messages. You can also include names or initials to make them your own.

For this craft, we have included Free Printable Templates! You can choose to decorate large mittens, which can fit more craft trims and there is more space to decorate. You can also choose to make smaller mittens as a quicker craft project for your group.

step by step Instructions

Prepare for the project by printing out the mitten template onto a piece of paper.

NOTE: We used felt for this activity, but you can simplify with construction paper!

Step 1: Begin by cutting out the printed mitten. 

Step 2: Select the color felt you want for your mitten. 

Step 3: Using a marker, outline the mitten on the felt.

Tip: Add tape to the back of the mitten cut out to ensure it doesn’t move when you’re tracing it onto the felt. 

Step 4: Cut out the mitten traced on the felt. 

Step 5: Customize your mitten with a variety of craft accessories!
