Have you ever used the water method of applying adhesive vinyl?

It’s a way to get a truly bubble free application on some materials.

It’s great for putting vinyl on a windshield or glass mug for example. Not great on a notebook cover 🙂

You simply spray the surface with some water (some people like to add a single drop of dish washing soap too, to really cut down on any surface tension.)

Then you lay the vinyl down (stuck to transfer tape) and use a scraper tool to start pressing the water out from the center.

What’s cool is that it also gives you a bit of wiggle room when placing the vinyl, because it won’t stick the second it touches the surface.

I used this trick when making these skeleton plates with frosted vinyl a few years ago.

Today’s Tip: Water Application for Vinyl

• Spray a hard surface with water before laying down adhesive vinyl
• Use a scraper to squeeze the water and air bubbles to the edges
• Once the water is pushed to the edges, soak up with a towel and remove the transfer tape
• BONUS: When I was left with a few tiny bubbles – they disappeared when it fully dried
