You can use clear plastic ornaments and decorate the backs of them. Check out the full tutorial for the process. They come out so pretty and sparkly!

Flores de Papel

 

Tissue flowers are a must-have for any holiday. Help kids create their own using tissue paper in shades of reds, pinks, and greens and golds. Simply layer circles of tissue, and fluff the paper one sheet at a time to form beautiful flowers that can decorate altars or brighten any room.

Piñata-inspired ornaments or charms

Transform small plastic animals into piñata-inspired ornaments for the tree. You can also use them as charms! String them together to make garland, or cut them up and re-glue together for an alebrije vibe.

Felt Llama Ornament

Celebrate the llamas of the Andes! Use a line drawing to cut two pieces of felt to create a llama,then add stitched details. use the blanket stitch all the way around. Use this method.

Mola Art-Inspired Designs

Introduce kids to the intricate patterns of mola art from the Guna people of Panama.  

It is a textile art form created using a reverse appliqué technique, where layers of fabric are sewn together, and portions of the top layers are cut away to reveal the colors beneath. Intricate stitching and fine craftsmanship are hallmarks. Use construction paper to create layered, colorful patterns inspired by animals and nature.

Ojo de Dios (God’s Eye) Garland

This classic Mexican craft involves wrapping yarn around popsicle sticks to create beautiful, colorful designs. It’s a great way to teach children about balance and symmetry. I used toothpicks and made God’s Cye Garland!
